ScottoBigum Handwired Macropad

ScottoBigum Handwired Macropad

A few months back I built the Scotto2 for someone with quadriplegia that allowed them to play racing games using 2 large buttons. I figured something cool to do for a bit of a meme would be an entire number pad with giant buttons. The result is the ScottoBigum which I believe to be the largest in the world. Each button is scaled up 4 times and the entire thing weighs close to 2 pounds.

Originally I was going to make it wired but I had an old somewhat busted nice!nano sitting around that I decided to use instead. It would be pretty awkward to use the thing plugged in. I also set it up to use ZMK studio so I could reprogram it to be actually useful. The hardest part at this point is figuring out where to store it because I really don't have room... maybe I'll put it in the background of my videos.

I would definitely like to expand on this idea in the future, specifically foot pedals.

Getting One

Just contact me if you actually want me to build you one or print the parts for you, this thing is massive lol...

If you want to build it yourself, you'll need the following:

Wiring

ScottoBigum wiring annotation for GPIO pins.

The ScottoBigum is "direct wired" which means that every switch gets it's own pin on the controller and all share a common ground. The pins listed above are for a Pro Micro Pinout which matches 1 to 1 with a nice!nano.

Since each key on this board is comprised of multiple switches, you will need to wire them in parallel first. Essentially you just tie the pins together to create one larger switch. Then you can wire one pin to the GPIO and the other to the GND plane.

Parallel wiring annotation.

Simply connect one pin from each switch to GND. Then connect the remaining switch pins to the following pins on the Arduino Pro Micro or nice!nano: TX0, RX1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A3, A2, A1, A0, 15, 14, 16

Firmware

You can find the most up-to-date firmware on the Github. Also available are the pre-compiled firmware files that you can simply download (right click, save as) and flash by dragging and dropping to the controller.
