The Scotto26 is a 26-key split 3x4 keyboard that uses combos for the inner column on a normal layout. I feel it is a fairly intuitive 30-percent layout as it doesn't require much reprogramming to your muscle memory. The inner column simply uses combos so to get D for example on a Colemak layout, you just press S + T. It's powered by 2 RP2040 Pro Micros with a USB-C interconnect cable. I went with simple Outemu Red switches as I don't plan on really using this board much, I just wanted it as a proof of concept. Everything is printed with fuzzy skin which I find makes the keycaps more uniform and gives it a great look! It also has custom thumb keys that make it blend together nicely.

Getting One

In addition to the 3D printed case, heat shink tubing, wire, and copper, you'll also need tools along with the following components:

2 1N4148 diodes
2 Female USB-C breakouts
26 1N4148 diodes
24 M2x5mm screws
12 M2x8mm standoffs
26 MX switches
26 keycaps
- 24 1u
- 2 Custom thumb keys

Wiring

When looking at the back of the board, the columns (blue) go to the following pins on the controller from right to left: GP6, GP7, GP8, GP9

The right half will have reversed columns: GP9, GP8, GP7, GP6

Then the rows (red) go from top to bottom: GP22, GP20, GP23, GP21

Keep in mind, you can connect anywhere on the column or row to the controller, it doesn't need to just be at the end.

Firmware

You can find the firmware files on the qmk_firmware repository or you can compile them online using the QMK Configurator. However, QMK is often slow at getting changes merged and because of that you can find the most up-to-date firmware on the ScottoKeebs Github repository. Also available are the pre-compiled firmware files that are ready to flash:

scotto.uf2 - My personal QMK keymap in Colemak.
vial.uf2 - Default QMK keymap in QWERTY with Vial configurator support.

The vial firmware file is very bare bones, I highly recommend using the scotto keymap and compiling for this build as it's heavy on custom code.
